隠れた名著(その8)の続きです。これも、こういう名の著作があるという意味ではありません。ソーンダイクの不朽の金字塔である『魔術と経験科学の歴史』(全8巻、1923‐1958年)の中、ここでは15世紀に関する巻の錬金術関係の章を抜き出してお伝えします。補遺の資料編を含めない本論だけで15世紀の錬金術に関して約90ページほど割かれています。特に注目は、ライモンドゥス・ルルスの錬金術文書の綿密かつ総合的な分析です。最近出された画期的な
M.Pereira 氏のルルス錬金術文書に関する研究の下敷きは、既に1934年の時点で出されていたのです。そう言った意味でも、M.Berthelot
以降 R.Halleux 以前の中世ラテン錬金術の研究の一番の貢献者である
