ガレノスの『アレクサンドリア集成』
古代末期のアレクサンドリアで医学教育のために作成された16書からなるガレノスの著作集の要約は、「アレクサンドリア集成」と呼ばれ、ガレノス自身によるテクストと並行して、ガレノス医学の伝搬に大きな役割を果たしたと考えられています。おそらく紀元後7世紀までに、ギリシア語で作成されたようですが、残存しているのはフナインによるアラビア語訳です（このアラビア語訳からのヘブライ語訳もあります）。
形態については、compendium、summarium、epitome などの用語が使われていますが、ガレノスによる原著をたんに要約したものではなく、原著にない補足的な説明なども入っていることから、epitome が良いのかも知れません。
2000年代に入ってから、この『アレクサンドリア集成』の研究が本格化しています。日本でも澤裕章君が博士論文として、『症状の違いについて』に対応する部分のテクスト校訂と翻訳にとり組んでいます。

今日は14時から国際セミナー「クインテッセンス」で澤裕章さんの発表「『アレクサンドリア集成』ベルリン写本の再構築：落丁フォリオの考察」 “Restoring the Body
of Text: Uncovering Corruptions in the Berlin manuscript of Jawāmi‘
al-Iskandarānīyīn” を聴きました。最古と考えられる写本における、後代に崩れてしまった紙葉の順番を再構成するという内容です。べつの写本は順番が崩れておらず、それと比較しながら議論が進みます。つまり紙葉の順番については、最古ではないですが、より完全な写本が存在します。
もちろん最古の写本をベースにするのは、テクスト校訂における基本中の基本です。すべての写本で紙葉の順番が崩れているなら、なおさら議論する価値は分かります。そうでない場合、それだけで論文に値するストーリーとなるのか、素朴な疑問がのこりました。単純に論証なしでも、正しい順番はこうなのだとリストを出せば、それで終わりだからです。もうちょっと議論として何かあるべきだという気がします。
