さて、いまさら、といわれてしまいそうですが、初期近代関連の興味深い新刊を年明けに落掌、ようやく読了いたしましたので、内容を報告させていただきます。書誌データは以下。タイトルから分かるとおり、商業と科学史・美術史との連関を、主に「驚異」をキーワードに探ろうという、意欲的な論集です。個々の論文もなかなかよいのですが、編者二名によるイントロダクションの文章がなんといっても冴え渡っています。いわく、これまで科学史・美術史においては、商業（経済）という視点が抜け落ちていたこと、貴族文化とブルジョア文化を截然と腑分けして考えるべきではないこと、新科学の影の推進者としてのアルティザン＆中産商人階級の役割をもっと重視すべきこと（W. Eamon の圏域）、医学の重要性や好奇心文化の役割にも目を向けること、などが熱っぽい筆致で説き去られています。以下に目次を掲載しておきますので、ご参考にしてください。ちなみに、P. Findlen の新刊（ルネサンス史）が、三月に発売になるそうですので、Findlen ファンは要チェックです。（記事：桑木野幸司）
